Communications Manager
Amiri Mohamedi is a passionate and driven marine scientist with a Master’s degree in Marine Science and Biological Oceanography from Zhejiang Ocean University. With a solid foundation in marine ecology, oceanographic processes, and environmental conservation, Amiri brings a fresh perspective to the field of marine science, eager to contribute to the understanding and preservation of marine ecosystems. During his academic career, Amiri developed a deep expertise in marine biodiversity, specializing in the genomics of polychaete worms. His master’s thesis, titled “Exploring the Taxonomic Status and Phylogeographical Structure of Perinereis Kinberg, 1865 in the East China Sea; A Study off the Coast of Zhejiang, China involved extensive fieldwork in the East China Sea and intensive lab work to study their genes in relation to their phylogeographic distribution and collaborate with local communities on conservation efforts. This research not only honed her technical skills but also reinforced his commitment to finding sustainable solutions for marine conservation challenges. Amiri’s academic background is complemented by hands-on experience in various research projects and internships. He worked as a research assistant, where he participated in long-term monitoring programs, including the analysis of plankton samples and the assessment of fish populations in protected marine areas.
Additionally, Amiri interned with the Wildlife Conservation Society, contributing to policy research on marine protected areas (MPAs) and helping to draft advocacy materials aimed at enhancing marine conservation policies. He is adept at using a variety of analytical tools and software, including GIS for mapping marine habitats, Matlab for statistical analysis, Mega for genetic data analysis, and remote sensing
technology to study oceanographic patterns. Beyond his technical expertise, Amiri is deeply committed to public outreach and education. He has volunteered with the National Engineering Research Center for Marine Aquaculture, leading educational workshops for students and community members on the importance of marine conservation and the threats posed by climate change. He believes that fostering a connection between people and the ocean is key to driving meaningful conservation efforts.
