Dr. Betina Lukwambe

Dr. Betina Lukwambe is a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam and a passionate advocate for sustainable mariculture practices. She is committed to the sustainable use of blue resources to improve the livelihoods of coastal communities. Her expertise in mariculture, environmental biotechnology, marine microbiomes, and biogeochemical processes aligns with the mission of the blue economy, which promotes healthy marine ecosystems.

Dr. Lukwambe’s research focuses on the interactions within microbial communities in aquatic environments, employing advanced molecular techniques to develop innovative solutions that improve aquaculture systems and minimize environmental impact for sustainable mariculture. By applying her knowledge, she enhances ecosystem health, reduces aquaculture waste, and increases community awareness of marine resource management. Her work aligns with the objectives of the Blue Economy Organization (BEO), which include supporting the restoration of marine ecosystems, using smart technologies to address the impacts of climate change, and advancing mariculture in Tanzania. Ultimately, her efforts contribute to fostering resilient coastal communities and a thriving blue economy in Tanzania.
